XP awards « Thread Started on Oct 2, 2002, 12:07pm »
Done the Ticks RPG award thing, I thought it was a hassle and too personal.
Darren and I have philosophiled about this topic before.
We agreed that by making it secret player vote, you're ensured of a less biased award - one that everyone believes that person should have gotten. It gives positive motivation for people to support and impress thier friends.
The Chart- White wolf used to have a thing where a DM woudl take players aside after a game and ask them what they learned about thier players, teh game, and teh metagame. Players were given an award based on thier learning...Kinda like the chart...

Yep. I'd seen the chart and have some of its spirit in my calcs, but I didn't want the players to have to get out of game so often to record what they did in game.
With CRs being arbitrary it's difficult to not award XP for other things. It's rather odd that such a subjective point system as CR in the DMG is the method by which advancement in the game is determined. Not as cut and dried as counting touchdowns, y' know!
