October 17th

We get ready to leave for the Black Hills.
Oaken says the omens are good for this trip.
We travel all of us on horseback, leaving Gavin and Oaken behind to catch up later. They wish to do more research and investigation.

October 18th-19th

Uneventful, the forest gradually becomes more and more overgrown as we leave the abbey.

October 20th

The on Ian’s final watch, just before dawn breaks a cloaked figure approaches in the darkness.
Claims his name is Sadbh and he is looking for the heroes that killed the bloody tongue clan orcs a several days ago.
Oaken answers that they indeed.
Ian sensing danger draws his sword and begins waking everyone.
Sadbh draws back his cowl and signals, he has orcish features, we war cries from attackers hidden in the forest darkness and battle ensures.
Ian races forward and cuts down Sadbh in a single blow.
I draw Sun Razor illuminating the night. There are 3 large groups of attackers. Two comprised of javelin throwing orcs, and another of orcish and ogre infantry.
Morgan fireballs one group instantly killing everyone.
Oaken entangles much of the second group.
On orders from some leader, they all throw their javelins at Morgan. He is wounded but remains standing.
The battle proceeds at a deadly pace. Oaken and Morgan continue the magical assault while Ian and I attempt to hold our attackers back.
Things look grim, but we finally slay all but the orcs entangled by Oaken’s spell.
Oaken and Morgan cruelly kill the ones entangled from afar with flaming spheres.

We search the area and find 6 large rose quartz gems, 10 old kingdom platinum, 500 Leinster crowns and a gold biceps ring.
While Cashel searches he finds the corpse of a ravaged elk. Clearly killed by some foul creature for sport and not food.
Alarmed by the find we decide to investigate after we rest from the battle.
Ian decapitates the orcs and puts their heads on the javelins.
We head off to track the monster that killed the elk.
Find feathers and bear tracks. Morgan deduces that it’s an Owlbear.
I deduce that if it is it is of extraordinary size.
Finally we find the creature. It seems to be sulking about some old hidden Ionian ruins.
As we approach it charges us.
Although large and deadly we make short work of it, felling the ravaging beast in seconds. I take its pelt and track it back to its layer.
The layer a large nest, is riddled with human bones. We find 2 large eggs. Oaken determines they have 2 weeks left before they hatch. I keep them.
I beg the group to go investigate the ruins but weakened by the two battles Oaken and Morgan insist of resting and we decide to wait until morning.
The day grows steadily colder.
My cousin mentions that he wishes he could spend the time playing fidtchel.
I offer to make him one from a piece of charred wood. I rough out the pieces and they play in the sand. When night finally falls, it is very cold. Ian and I bundle up in my tent. Morgan and Oaken seemed protected by their powers.

The next morning we investigate the ruins.

They are clearly several centuries old.
Beautiful white marble mausoleum looms through the heavy overgrowth. Several large Ionian columns hold of a triangular roof decorated with Ionian relief.
4 large copper minotaur statues stand motionless under the roof, stained green from centuries of disrepair.
There is a large plaza, strangely clear of vegetation in front of the mausoleum also of marble.
As I step upon it the statues come to life and attack.
Morgan launches a fireball but the flames seem to help more than hurt the creatures.
It is a good fight and we finally destroy the golem like guardians, who we find out are hollow.
We walk up to the mausoleum and find an ancient copper plaque above 2 huge double doors.
It says: “Here Lies Euphonim The Cruel, Slayer of the Cimbri, Enemy of the Oak, Slain at the battle of Hastenford, Served by Druids and Attended by The Weird Dolguin.”
I check the doors for traps and open them.
We peer into darkness to see what appears to be a large ramp sloping downwards. We can just barely make out a huge sculpture of a man’s face.
We walk down the ramp and see some sort of huge contraption with large roller wheels. Also in the room are 3 doors, the largest facing the entrance. As we inspect it, I find a ladder and joyously climb onto the top of the machine, where to my surprise and joy I find a place for two people to sit and several levers and wheels worth investigating.
Down below, the party members hear a sound from behind the machine.
They se a large slow moving blob that is making its way around the contraption to attack. They back away slowly, in part due to the creature, and in part due because I have somehow managed to make the machine move forward.
Like a great unhorsed chariot the massive machine begins moving up the ramp at my control, gaining speed.
Down below, the spellcasters are using their magical flaming spheres to destroy the evil blob attacking them.
I reach the top of the ramp and rocket forward accidentally driving into the woods, I spend some time experimenting with the new toy and park it in front of the mausoleum.
As soon as I do, I leap out of the machine as I hear find Oaken furiously calling for me.
He admonishes me for recklessly trying destroying part of the forest. My cousin smiles at me behind him.
After I apologize to Oaken, we decide to try one of the side doors.
I inspect the lock and find it is closed with a padlock. I try with little success to open it. Centuries of exposure to the elements have rusted it shut. Ian crashes through with little effort into a small room littered with gray bodies of what seems to be ancient Cimbrian workers and slaves with their throats clearly cut.
They begin standing and moaning.
Morgan rushes into the room and Lightning bolts half, killing them instantly.
Oaken horrified at the sight of Cimbrian workers and slaves killed and turned to ghouls, flamestrikes the rest.
We leave the room and turn towards the other side door. Oaken demands that we rest before we proceed, Ian insists that we can handle one more door.
They argue and Oaken walks off. Torn between the will of the Druids and my cousin, Cashel chooses his cousin.
However, I listen at the door and hear the sound of a rustling chain. Unsure as to what lies beyond, Ian wisely decides to follow the will of the druid.
We reconnoiter outside, and I apologize to Oaken by carving a small wooden sundial decorated with an owl and a bat for different hours of the day.
We spend the rest of the day inspecting the terrible Ionain war machine.
While I show Morgan how the thing works, we notice a large red button. Cashel attempts to press it but Morgan refuses to allow me to experiment and wrestles me to the ground.
We sleep fitfully and resolve to enter the main doors the following day.

We approach the main door to open it.
Cashel listens at it to and hears strange chanting in an alien language.
After some work, Cashel finally opens the door and step to the side.
Inside we can just barely make out 8 figures wearing the ancient rotting green robes of druids.

They instantly all raise their arms in unison and send a barrage of magic missiles pummeling into Ian and Morgan.
Cashel wait for Morgan and Oaken to launch their powerful spells before I run in.
Oaken Flamestrikes several, but they seem to be somehow resistant to his magic and all but one survives.
Morgan follows up with a fireball with equally limited results.
The creatures respond by casting strange life draining spells, which weaken us.
Cashel rushes into the room striking at one of the creatures with Sun Razor.
Ian follows him in finishing the creature with a powerful blow from his own huge claymore.
The battle turns grim as one of the undead druids slams me and drains me of life. I notice to my horror as he does so that the faces beneath the cowl are scribed with hundreds of liens of spidery script.
The rest of the undead cast other spells to further weaken us.
Morgan turns the tide of battle by summoning a strange demon like creature with huge claws and a large predatory beak.
The demon pounces on one of the druids and instantly rends it to pieces.
We soon defeat the rest of the undead druids with the help of Morgan's summoned demon.
In the midst of battle Morgan's creature slashes at Oaken with rending claws.
We find a final set of large double doors and a mysterious natural cavern in the room.
Thinking we need proceed quickly while Morgan’s creature is amongst us, Morgan commands it to shatter the door.
As it does so it sets of a Symbol of Discord.
Instantly we begin fighting ourselves.
Ian moves to attack Oaken after oaken pummels me with his staff.
I charge up to Morgan and slash at him viciously under the effects of the spell.
He, more resistant to the effects than I manages to envelope me in a sphere of force keeping em from doing anything else.
Meanwhile, Ian has wrestled Oaken to the ground and knocked him unconscious.
Finally the effects of the spell ends and we return to the shattered double doors.
Inside we see a horde of glittering jewels and coins.
I happen to see the tip of a pole arm protruding from behind the wall, clearly some sort of guardians lie in wait for us.
Morgan sends his demon in and it begins to attack one of the creatures.
Ian steps in and finds another, which he makes short work off.
Morgan’s creature quickly finishes off the final monster.

The final guardians defeated we take stock of our treasure:
Spear of Ohgma (Cimbrian Striking) named Duir +3 or forks into 3 and strikes +1
Kriss Scimitar
Ring of Mind Shielding
Ioun stone +2 STR, Ioun stone +2 CHA
Book +4 Con
Cloak of the Forrest
Bottle of Rhynnon Stiffbeard
Adamantium Gladius
4 Vials in the shape of a pyramid
60,000 sliver, 20,000 gold, 36 gems
Ian and I proceed back to the natural corridor to investigate.
We follow it to a large cavern chamber where a beautiful woman made of earth and vegetation rises out of the ground to greet us.
She claims to be the Weird Dolguin, friend of the ancient druids and oracle.
She can see how men will die.
Last person to greet her was King Eiddoel.
She says she kept the Tygetians from entering her chamber.
Cashel asks her for his future death:
“Before your beard grows out I will dies after failing the 5th riddle of Gwydol”.
Ian asks for his future:
“You are to be a Lard and sung by Bards but you will falter before the wrath of a Dread Linnorn.”
Later we bring Oaken. He asks for his future.
She says it is uncustomary but will tell:
“You will fall to Arinrood The First Elf”
Ian tries to bring Morgan but they are unable to find the room of the Weird.
They return back.
