When last we left our one (barely) standing hero, Rellien had managed to drag his 2½ unconscious companions outside the doors of the Sunken Keep. Dunkel's lifeless body lay somewhere behind him, and before him stood the countless stairs leading to the top of the chasm.
Rellien set the halfling over his shoulder, fastened him there with Father Necker's belt, and then carefully dragged the two human bodies upstairs one at a time, flight by flight. As they neared the top, he crept by himself up to the last ledge to check for more rats, but found only the corpses from their first encounter. Relieved, he hauled the bodies up the last flights of stairs (nearly losing his balance several times) and prepared to face the 50-foot rope.
With Terry still strapped to his shoulder, Rellien made the first 10 feet of the climb before losing his grip on the rope and falling down 10 feet. [Thus, by a failed climb check and a subsequent failed tumble check, 3 HP became 1 HP. ] Opting to take the longer but safer approach, Rellien tied Terry to the bottom of the rope, climbed the rope, and then pulled Terry up. The process proved equally successful with Chiat and Father Necker.
The elf's luck held when he found Chiat's mule, Margaret, still tethered not far from the chasm's edge. Rellien draped the bodies over her back (much to her disapproval), tied them down, and then set off for Gilpin at the fastet pace that Margaret could make, stopping every few hours to tend to his unconscious comrades. After a full (and thankfully uneventful) day's travel, Rellien stopped long enough to get a few hours of rest under the dark night sky and was then on the road again.
It wasn't long before he spotted two humans sleeping near the road. Hoping for a pair of travelling priests, he called out asking for help. Instead of priests, one turned out to be a monk from the province of Chin and the other was the monk's slain trainee, a young man from Gilpin. The pair had been travelling towards the Sunken Keep in search of the monk's brother when a hippogriff attacked, killing the boy.
After further discussion, both Rellien and the monk were surprised to discover that the monk's brother was none other than Chiat! The monk had a message to relay to Chiat and so was quite eager to help Rellien on his way to Gilpin's temples. He gathered up the body of his fallen student and by the next night they had reached Gilpin's gates.
But Gilpin's gates close at dark. The monk informed the gatekeeper that he bore the dead body of one of the city's soldiers, and after a bit of "financial lubrication" from Rellien the guard agreed to let them in. While the monk went to inform his pupil's family of their son's demise, Rellien made his way to the nearest temple of Fharlanghn in hopes that someone there would recognize Father Necker and adjust the prices of their healing services accordingly. The only priest there didn't recognize Necker, but agreed to heal him for free and to let the rest of the party rest in the temple. Rellien quickly consented, believing that Father Necker would be able to tend to both Chiat and Terry. After making sure that everyone (and Margaret) were situated, Rellien found a cot and took a long-deserved rest.

Everybody survived! (Well, everybody who was still technically alive after the last session. Poor Dunkel!)
